Tilije village is a lovely settlement that is part of the Manang district and is situated inside the Manaslu Conservation Area. It’s the last village to where we can drive for the Ponker Lake Trek and the last village from where we can drive to Kathmandu after crossing the Larke La Pass trek. Tiliche is a beautiful village that is known for its raw, wild adventure. The elevation of the settlement is 2,262 meters above sea level. The village is lush green, and the barren land is mixed. As you enter the village, you will see the forests and the rocky landscapes and the rivers flowing, and there are rocks and sand in the rivers.

Surroundings of Tilije Village

The surroundings of the Tilije village are lush green, and it lies above the Marshyangdi village and is the gateway to the Annapurna conservation area as well. There is a crossing in Dharapani from where, if you go right, you reach Tiliche, and if you go left, you reach Manang Chame and Pisang. The village is beautifully dotted with wildflowers. The village is serene, and they still live in connection with nature. You can often see yaks grazing nearby, Himalayan birds gliding in the air, and locals carrying firewood across trails.

How can you get to Tilije Village from Kathmandu?

You can reach Tilije from Kathmandu by driving or by renting a vehicle. You can reach Tilije village directly by driving. The distance between Tiliche village and Kathmandu is around 225 to 230 km, which can be reached in 8 to 10 hours depending on the road conditions, like traffic jams, resting time, and the side trips included. You will be driving via the beautiful villages like Mugling, Dumre, Besi Sahar, Dharapani, and Tiliche. You don’t have any flight options, so it's compulsory to drive only to reach here. You might wonder, Can I cross Larke La Pass or complete Manaslu Circuit Trek from trekking to Tiliche village and then Bhimtang and then Larke Pass? The straight answer is no, you cannot because the pass is at an altitude of 5000 m+, which is very high, and without acclimatization it is impossible; you might risk your life if you do that.

Do I need a permit to reach Tilije village?

Yes, you will need permission to visit Tilije Village. Because the settlement is on the boundary of the Annapurna and Manaslu conservation zones, you will require both permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area permit (ACAP) and the Manaslu Conservation Area permit (MCAP).  The permits can be obtained from the tourism board office or by registered trekking agencies. The cost is around NPR 3000 per person.

What are the accommodation options in the Tilije village?

The accommodation options in Tilije village are comfortable and cozy; while you might not get the exact comfort of the city hotels, you will still get the facilities of staying in the attached washroom rooms, having electricity and wifi, and being well connected with the road routes. You will stay in the guest house, which provides all the facilities with warm blankets, pillows, and mattresses. You will have a variety of food options, from the dal bhat to the pizza as well, but the taste will not be exactly like in cities.

The cultures and traditions of the Tilije village are influenced by a mixture of Tibetan and Hindu influences. As the people here are Gurung and Magar, you will see the locals speaking the Ghale language and other traditional languages. The village is covered with fluttering flags and monasteries. You will see the people taking out the sand from the river.
