Namrung village is situated 2,630 meters (8,628 feet) above sea level on the highlands of the Manaslu Conservation Area. Situated in an area renowned for its serenity and scenic views, this charming village is modest and serene. It is an important checkpoint to enter the conservation area, which leads to beautiful destinations like Larkya La Pass, Tsum Valley, Tilicho Lake as people combine the Larke la pass with Tilicho lake trek and Nubri Valley. As it is a Tibetan-influenced valley, it is known for its monasteries, prayer flags, small chortens, and the mani walls dotted over the trails. Also, you can witness the beautiful views of the mountains like Ganesh Himal, Himalchuli, and Siringi Himal. The village is often known for its peaceful environment and its culture and traditions.

Surroundings of Namrung Village

The surroundings of the Namrung village are covered with lush dense green forests of rhododendron, pine, bamboo, and oak. You will see the ancient mani walls, chortens, and colorful prayer flags all over the village. Also, you will see traditional Tibetan-style houses, cultivated barley fields, and locals in their daily routines, often wearing traditional attire. The village is peaceful and scenic; from your tea house, you can witness the beautiful sunrise and sunset of the Ganesh Himal, Himalchuli, and Siringi Himal.

 

How to reach Namrung Village from Kathmandu?

Reaching Namrung from Kathmandu is not direct access, so to reach Namrung village from Kathmandu, you will need to drive to Jagat and then trek from Jagat to Nyak and then trek to Namrung. You can also have alternate options for reaching Namrung village from Soti Khola and Macha Khola. However, Soti Khola and Macha Khola are not suggested to start your trek, as the roads are developed from Jagat, so it's easy and short for you to start your trek from Jagat.

Do I need a permit to reach Namrung village?

Yes, you will need a permit to reach Namrung village, as Namrung village lies inside the Manaslu Conservation Area (MCA), which is a wildlife-conserved area inside the Manaslu region. You will need permits like RAP, not the songs, but the permit, which is in full form Restricted Area Permit, and the Manaslu Conservation Area permit; both can be obtained from a trekking agency like Adventure Vision Treks. Also, you cannot trek solo here, making it compulsory to have 2 trekkers and 1 guide to start your Manaslu Circuit Trek, Tsum Valley trek, or it might be just the Manaslu base camp trek. You will need to keep your original permits and passports as well due to the verification at the checkpoints.

What are the accommodation options in the Namrung village?

The accommodation options in the Namrung village are warm and cozy teahouses with twin-sharing bases for the trekkers, which can be shared among the trekkers' group or sometimes with other trekking groups as well. There is an option for a single room as well, but for that, you will need to inform us early while booking the trek. Also, you get service from the common dining area where you can sit and enjoy the fresh and authentic meals of the village. You can try different food items like Thakali khana, often known as dal bhat, tarkari, papad, salad and achar(pickles), Noodles, Tibetan bread, and sometimes even yak cheese or apple pie. You can also use facilities like laundry, wifi, and charging electronic items, for which you will need to pay extra, from 2 to 5 USD. The teahouses are affordable, and they provide dinner and breakfast included in the accommodations, which helps trekkers stay and relax more comfortably.

The cultures and traditions of the Namrung village are mainly influenced by Tibetan culture and traditions. The locals here are primarily of Tibetan origin, and their lifestyle reflects deep spiritual roots. You’ll find intricately carved mani stones, chortens (Buddhist shrines), and fluttering prayer flags throughout the village, all of which hold religious significance. Early mornings often begin with the sound of prayer wheels spinning and monks chanting from the nearby monasteries, giving trekkers a peaceful and sacred atmosphere to start their day.
