The Everest Kalapathar trek is one of the most rewarding journeys for your adventure holiday in Nepal. It combines different landscapes and terrain to offer you the dramatic introduction to Everest possible. Trek to Everest Base Camp offers the dramatic view of Khumbu Glaciers, the infamous ice-fall to the Western Cwm, and, in spring, the preparatory conditions of mountaineers. Kala Patthar, on the other hand, offers a close-up view of Everest, Nuptse, the South Col, and the circular view of peaks including Pumori next to you. Everest Base Camp Kalapathar trekking route is a grandeur destination to experience the best of the Khumbu region.
16-day Kalapathar Everest View Trek is meticulously designed to minimize the risk of altitude sickness by limiting the altitude gain each day. An acclimatization and rest day at the vibrant village of Namche Bazaar allows you to gain in-depth knowledge of local people and their lifestyles. As we gain elevation, the villages gradually become smaller, tree line gives way to alpine scrub and the mountain comes full into view. We halt at Dingboche for the second scheduled acclimatization after which we climb to the last settlement of Gorak Shep. A rigorous hike to Everest base camp is followed by the next day’s climb to the Kalapathar.
This challenging trek in the Khumbu region demands you to be physically fit and you need to hold a good pair of hiking boots, waterproof clothes, a sleeping bag, a Day pack, sunscreen, and a Hat. Our Kalapathar Everest Base Camp Trek package covers all the transportation, porters, guides, accommodation, and other expenses incurred during the trek.
Kalapathar is a mountain located near the Gorak Shep which displays an excellent view of Mount Everest and sunrise. The golden Mount Everest view at sunrise from here is rated as a heavenly view by travelers.
Kalapathar reaches an elevation of 5,545m and takes around 3 - 4 hours to reach the summit from Gorak Shep. Kalapathar in Nepali dialects means “black rock” which is exactly what it is.
Well, that depends on the time of year you go, the weather, and how tired you are. On average, it’s not so hard and worth every step!
Kala Patthar, a 3 – 4 hours climb from Gorakshep doesn’t lead you up to the snowy peak, just takes you to the summit of black rock. Kalapathar climb negotiates steep terrain with small rocks and large boulders. It is rated as a “Strenuous” trek which any passionate hiker can join in to enjoy the magic of nature.
Autumn (September – November) and spring (March- May) are the best times of the year for the Kalapathar EBC trek. However, Adventure Vision Treks can organize this trek throughout the year. Not only the Kalapathar trek but all trekking routes like the Everest base camp trek, Everest view trek, and Everest Gokyo lake trek are suggested to trek in Spring and Autumn. If you are planning to trek Everest base camp only see this Everest base camp trekking in the Spring package also.
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be received by a representative of Adventure Vision Treks who will transfer you to the hotel. We then check in at the hotel, freshen up, and take some rest. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner organized by Adventure Vision Treks.

After breakfast, we proceed for the visit to UNESCO-designated world heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu Valley has one of the dense concentrations of cultural heritage and religious sites. The city tour begins after morning breakfast and you will explore the highly venerated world heritage sites that include Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Durbar Square. All these sites are highly revered by the people of the city.
Dedicated to lord Shiva, Pashupatinath temple is one of the four most significant Hindu religious sites in the world. The temples were built in the 5th century and later renovated by the Malla Kings. Pashupatinath is protected by UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The main temple has pagoda style shape with a gilded roof, four sides clotted with silver and wood carving of the finest quality. There are many small temples and shrines dedicated to several deities of Hindu and Buddhist at the premises of Pashupatinath.
The entrance to the main temple is strictly restricted to non-Hindus, however, the vantage point located along the bank of Bagmati River offers a full-scape view of the temple and ongoing rituals. The intriguing architecture and fascinating history of the temple are worth exploring.
Boudhanath Stupa is the largest stupa in Nepal and one of the sacred sites for Tibetan Buddhists outside Tibet. The stupa is located about 7km north of central Kathmandu; on the eastern outskirts of the valley. It is the major hub of the Tibetan community and portrays a rich symbol of Buddhism. Interestingly, it is designated as a world heritage site of Nepal.
Built in the 14th century after the Mughal invasions, there are many interesting legends regarding the construction of the site. In 1959 thousands of Tibetans migrate here and thereafter it becomes one of the most significant centers of Tibetan Buddhism.
Located at the walking distance just 3km west of Thamel, Swayambhunath is a hilltop stupa dating back 2,000 years. Swayambhunath is also popularly known as “Monkey Temple” due to the large number of rhesus primates living here. The entrance to this white domed-shaped stupa has 365 stone steps that need to be climbed to reach the shrine.
The numerous shrines and temple and 360-degree view of Kathmandu Valley are the main attractions of Swayambhunath. It is one of the important world heritage sites in Nepal.
Located about 2km south of Thamel, Durbar Square is an ancient royal palace of Nepal. This significant heritage site houses numerous ancient art, architecture, sculpture, and paintings of the ancient history of Nepal. Here you can also discover the holy abode of the living goddess, Kumari.
Drive back to the hotel and make the necessary preparations for the next day's trip.
