Everest Base Camp Trek with Cho La Pass and Gokyo Lake Trek is 17-days package is designed to explore the three popular destinations in the Everest region. This combines EBC (5364m) and Gokyo lake (4900m) with Chola pass(5420m), one of the highest passes in the Nepal Himalaya. At first, we will trek to Everest Base Camp then return via Cho La pass to reach Gokyo Lake to Namche.

Everest Base Camp Trek is on of the bucket list of many adventure travelers as it is a gateway to the World’s highest mountain, offering remarkable views and an extraordinary cultural experience of the Himalayas. You may have seen trekking to Gokyo Lake at first and crossing Chola Pass to reach  Everest Base Camp. While traveling at high altitude and crossing passes in the mountains, certain unpredicted conditions may occur, and you may need to return without completing the trek. It might be an upset for the travelers whose main target was to reach EBC. So, this trek is designed to reach the bucket list destination, Everest base camp first, then extend the trip to Gokyo via Chola pass.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is the dream of every adventurer and nature lover since it takes you to the highest point a trekker may travel near Mt. Everest. EBC is covered with breathtaking scenery and cultural immersion. The elevation of the Everest Base Camp is 5,364 meters (17,598 ft).
Cho la Pass is one of the highest pass among three passes in Everest region. It connects the Dzongla (near Lobuche) to Thagnak (near Gokyo). Crossing the Cho La Pass is one of the adventurous task to do as its altitude lies at 5420m which is higher than the Thorong La Pass in Annapurna circuit and Everest base camp itself. When reaching Cho la Pass you will witness the majestic views of the Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Lobuche East, and distant views of Everest. Travelers prefer to cross this pass to reach Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Lake or vice versa.
 
Gokyo Lake is considered a holy lake by locals. During the Janai Purnima, people take a dip in the lake and worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. This lake is situated near the village of Gokyo, which is also our last destination of this trek. Gokyo Lake is a beautiful glacier lake in the Everest region known for its pristine beauty and majestic views of the Himalayas ranges at its backdrop. It lies at an altitude of 4,790 meters (15,715 ft). Gokyo Lake is a mixture of the 6 lakes making the Dudh pokhari main. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Everest base camp. The Gokyo Lake is among the known destinations in Nepal. It can be accessed via namche and cho la pass itself.

Best Seasons For Everest Base Camp, Cho La Pass and Gokyo Lake Trek

The best time to visit Everest Base Camp, Cho La Pass, and Gokyo Lake is considered in the spring and Autumn seasons based upon the previous travelers experience.

In the Spring (March to May) season, we can see the mountains and skies clearly, especially in the morning. Starting in April, trekkers can get a chance to hear the chirping of the birds. Days are long in April and May. The temperature in April is quite favourable rather to other months.  We can get a chance to see the glory of the Rhododendron forest. May is also suitable for our 17-day packages, as the day is quite sunny and warm, which ranges from 12°C to 20°C during the day and -5°C to 0°C during nighttime.

Also, in the Autumn(September, October, November) Season, the temperature is quite warm and the trekkers feel relaxed due to the mild temperature. The chance of rainfall and snow is comparatively less, having stable weather. Due to the reduced snowfall and high visibility, it is easier for the trekkers.

Everest base camp trek with Chola pass and Gokyo lake Price

The total cost for trekking depends on the group size, service you want to take during trekking days, hotels in Kathmandu, mode of transportation etc. If your group size is larger than two persons the cost will decrease as you the cost for guide and transportation in city area is shared among the group. Trekking guide charge starts from USD 25 to USD 50 per day depending upon their experience.

The cost also depends on accomodation starting from USD 15 (tourist standard hotel) to USD 120 (Five star hotel). Another cost is transportatin in city area, the cost for airport transport, sightseeing in Kathmandu, depends upon the vehicle. 

If you want to fly to Everest region by helicopter or want Everest base camp trek with helicopter flyout the cost depends upon the group size as five person can share the helicopter.

There are some additional cost applies on some services in Everest region trekking, like wifi, hot water in hotel, room types, meals etc. There is some cost for trekking equipments also. You can save the money by renting the equipments from Kathmandu or from Lukla too.

Everest base camp trek and Gokyo lake trek via Chola Pass Permit

To trek Everest base camp you need to obtain some permits like TIMS, Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit. The cost of national permit is NPR 3000 for non SAARC countries and NPR 1500 for SAARC citizens.

The cost for Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance permit for SAARC countries and China Nrs: 2000, Other Countries: Nrs: 3000.

The cost for TIMS (Optional currently) for Group trekkers (Blue TIMS card) fee is Rs 1,000 per person, while FITs have to get Green TIMS cards by paying a fee of Rs 2,000. Similarly, the cost for group trekkers from SAARC countries is Rs 300 for TIMS cards, while FITs from the SAARC region have to pay Rs 600 each.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kathmandu

 When you arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, our member will be waiting by holding the Adventure Vision banner to meet you. After meeting you, we will take you to the hotel. Once you've freshened up, you will be taken to try authentic Nepali food (Dal Bhat) serving with a variety of achaar. We can spend more time getting to know each other better while having our lunch, and can discuss our planning necessary for the trek. 

Depending upon your arrival time, you can explore the other side of Kathmandu, like Boudhanath, Swayambhunath Temple, Basantapur, and Patan. Dinner will be provided at the hotel after you return from roaming. Necessary details will be provided at night.

Day 2

Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding

Early in the Morning, according to our Flight time, we will start our thrilling journey towards Lukla. After you reach Lukla, you will have your breakfast while enjoying the fascinating scenery from our hotel.

After having our breakfast, we will start our 3-4 hour trek to Phakding. On this day, we will explore the different places in Phakding and try different cultural foods. We will enjoy the view of Mount Khumbila and Kusum Kanguru and stay overnight at the teahouse. 

The tea house has simple facilities, local meals, and comfy shared beds to rest. At night, we can experience the beauty of the starlit sky and the charm of the village, adding a sense of warmth and light illumination of the Dudh-Koshi River. While the mountains are not visible at night, we can see the outline against the night sky. 

Day 3

Phakding to Namche

After having our breakfast, we will head north from Phakding and trek for about 5-6 hours to Namche Bazaar. Moving to the Dudh-Koshi River, we can see some villages like Chumoa and Monjo surrounded by rhododendron.

We will go through Sagarmatha National Park, which is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. We can find rare species of animals like the Snow Leopard, Musk deer, Red Panda, and birds like Snowcock, Bearded Vulture, Himalayan Monal, and Plants like Pine, Blue Pines, Hemlock, Juniper, and so on. After crossing the suspension bridge, we reach Namche Bazaar, also known as the largest commercial hub in the Khumbu Region.

Day 4

Acclimatization Day- Namche Bazar

As we move towards a higher altitude, our body takes time to adapt to the climate surrounding us. So, we spent the day around the Namche Bazaar.  Namche Bazar is a beautiful, picturesque village located in the Khumbu Region of Nepal, known as the cultural and traditional hub for Sherpa people. You can witness many tea houses and lodges welcoming trekkers every day.

The traditional Tibetan market is also known for its cheap clothing and accessories. Upon reaching it, you can check into your teahouse and lodges and relax. After that, you can stroll around the local Namche bazaar and also enjoy local authentic food like Reidok, Thukpa, Yak cheese, Butter tea, and many other Tibetan foods. We will spend the night at the tea house on this day at Namche Bazaar.

Day 5

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

After a rest at Namche Bazaar and breakfast, we will head towards Tengboche, which will take around 5 to 6 hours. The journey from Namche Bazar to Tengboche is quite easy and fun. We need to begin a trek with a steep hill for around 20 to 25 minutes to get an easier path. After 2 hours of hiking, we will climb down the trail of the river at Phungi Tenga. Crossing the river, we will begin an uphill trek, which takes around 2 hours.

We will have a launch party at a teahouse and take some rest. We will finally reach Tengboche, a tiny village in the Khumbu region. We will visit the oldest Monastery of Tengboche with the stunning backdrop of Ama Dablam. We will rest the night at Tengbche.

Day 6

Trek to Dingboche

After having breakfast at Tengboche, we will lead the trek slightly downhill for about an hour till we cross the wooden bridge. Then, we will continue our trek towards the Pangboche village. You must walk around 9 to 10 km as the trail goes to Deboche, crossing the Imja River where the path is slightly rough. We will have our lunch at Imja Valley and continue our trek. After a 3-hour uphill trek, we will finally reach our destination (Dingboche).

Day 7

Acclimatization Day- Dingboche

After our beautiful night, we will have some breakfast at our hotel, and on this day, we will explore more places in Dingboche. We will head towards Nangkartshang Peak, where the path is filled with rocks, making the travelers navigate. But despite its road condition, you will be amazed by its stunning view of Lhotse and Nuptse. You can also see the other peaks like Makalu, Island Peak, and Amadalam. After spending some time there, we will head down towards our hotel and have our delicious dinner. After having our dinner, we will rest there.

Day 8

Trek to Lobuche

After resting at our hotel and having breakfast early in the morning, we will start our trek toward Lobuche. Our trail begins with a gentle ascent from the edge of a hill, which provides a stunning view of Chukung Valley and Island Peak. After two hours of walking from Dingboche, we will arrive at Dugla, where we will stop at a teahouse to grab our lunch.

Shortly after lunch, we will continue an uphill trek for about 1 hour to see the view of Mt.Pumori, Cholatse, and Cholatse. We will go uphill to the Thukla pass (4900 m), where there is a memorial of great climbers from around the world who lost their lives during the trip. After Thukla Pass, you will reach Lobuche within an hour. 

Day 9

Lobuche to Gorak Shep with Everest Base Camp

After the night spent on Lobuche, we will have breakfast in the morning. It is going to be a tremendous day as you are going to achieve your desired destination.

From Lobuche, we will head towards Gorak Shep, which will take 2 to 3 hours. The Gorak Shep is the highest teahouse found on the Everest Base Camp trek (5164 m). We will have lunch at the tea house, carry gloves and a jacket to stay warm, and walk to Everest Base Camp.

After reaching EBC, you feel like a fairytale story that does come true. It will be your life’s memorial moment to remember in a lifetime. After spending some time on the Base camp, we will return to Gorak Shep to rest at night.

Day 10

Gorakshep to Kalapathar then Trek to Dzongla

We will make an early start by having our breakfast, then trek towards Kalapathar, which is not as easy. Located at Kalapthar, it provides travelers with the finest vantage point to observe Everest as well as Pumori and Nuptse alongside the irresistible Khumbu Valley. Kalapthar viewpoint is the best place to see the stunning view of Everest from close.

After visiting Kalapathar, we will trek down Gorakhshep and trek to Dzongla, the final destination of the day. We will rest at the lodge overnight after having dinner.

Day 11

Dzongla to Thangnak crossing Cho La Pass (5420)

The day starts with breakfast and a morning view of Dzongla, heading towards the trek to Cho La pass. There are no settlements of humans as it is surrounded by the mountains, a glacier lake, and snow-capped hills. After enjoying the view, we move down the snow-covered chain to Thangnak.

We should be more careful as the ground is made up of loose rocks and ice. The Thagnak lies to the west of Dzongla. We will spend the rest of our day at Thagnak Tea House.

Day 12

Trek to Gokya

On this day, we will travel to Gokya from Thangnak after having breakfast. The trek towards Gokyo is more physically demanding and tough. We need to cross the Ngozumpa glacier to reach Gokyo, taking a minimum of 3 hours.

Including Gokyo Lake, we will explore the other five glacier lakes, which reward us with the amazing view of Mt. Cho Oyo and Gokyo Ri. After spending some time at the lakeside, we will head back to the village.

Day 13

Gokyo to Dole

As we already explored all five glacier lakes on the previous day, we will be heading to Gokyo Ri. Following the trek from Gokyo Ri after having lunch, we move towards the downward way to the Dole.The trail follows the same path through the Ngozumpa glacier.

Dole lies in the North of Khumjung in the Dudh Koshi River. It takes 5 to 6 hours to reach Dole. We can find many Tea houses at Dole, as it is the stoppage of the treakers.

Day 14

Dole to Namche

As Dole is the final destination of our package, we will head toward the Namche Bazar by having breakfast. We need to cross the bridges and many villages, including Kyanjuma. To make our way to the valley, we need to walk through an alpine forest full of pines and rhododendrons. Rhododendron, also known as Lali Gurans, is the National Flower of Nepal, embracing the beauty of Nepal. It takes 5 to 6 hours to reach Namche.

Overnight, we will stay at Namche Bazaar and have a walk in the Bazaar.

Day 15

Namche to Lukla

On this day, we need to walk 8 to 9 hours to get to Lukla. Before heading towards Lukla, we will have breakfast. We will cross different places, including Sagarmatha National Park, and some checkpoints. We will have our lunch at Phakding village and head towards Lukla.

After reaching Lukla, we can celebrate the victory of the completion of the trip at night by having some drinks and dancing with the team members.

Day 16

Lukla to Kathmandu

 After having our lunch, we will head towards the Lukla airport. You can enjoy the cinematic view from the plane as you leave the mountain. It takes 30 to 35 minutes to reach Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu. You will be dropped off at the hotel by private vehicle, where you can rest. You can explore the Thamel area at night, as it is popular for both locals and tourists seeking entertainment moments at clubs and bars. 

Day 17

Departure

After having your breakfast early in the morning, you will be headed towards the Tribhuvan airport for your International Flight by private vehicle from a hotel. You will not only miss the moments being created but also the beauty of Nepal, its cultural way of welcoming tourists.
